Default '98 3.0CL transmission help

i think my tranny went to hell last night. my car shifted real hard between gears and now it wont shift beyond 2nd gear. can somone tell me what most people are doing? i know i dont get any help from the recall, and i bought the car privately, so no extended warrenty. are most people just replacing it with the same transmission? is it possible to do a 6-speed transmission conversion? or do those transmissions have problems too? i know im getting ready to waste about $3000, so i just want to make sure that i dont have to do this again a couple years down the road. thanks.

As far as the cheapest/easiest method, it's going to be a rebuilt tranny of the same kind.

Your gonna be going through a lot of trannys if you put a lot of stress on that tranny by racing and what not. Those 3.0 trannys are garbage....You could do a swap, buts its gonna be expensive...Im not sure about the swap though. There is a "Dr.Evil" tranny that you could put in it that is basically bulletproof....Do a search on the webside that i stated above to find out more about it.
