How to prevent tranny from failing?
I just bought a 3.2 TL w/ 48k miles. I know I'm taking a chance here but it's covered w/ the 100k extented warranty on the tranny, and I really like the styling and sportyness.
Question is, what's driving habits are killing these trannies? Is it (or even a combination of):
1) Agressive no SS
2) Agressive w/ lots of SS
3) Medium no SS
4) Medium w/ lots of SS
5) Lots of downshifting to prevent brake rotor warpage
6) Lots of City driving
7) Lots of Highway driving
I've read posts where ppl have gone thru 3 of them and others none. Is it the super agressive driving style some ppl have while using the sport shift? Would not using the SS but still agressive help?
A friend at work has a 2001 TL and said he would down shift w/ the SS to prevent the warped rotor problem. His tranny crapped out on him the other yr. Not sure the miles though.
If you have gone thru a lot of trannies please let us know what your driving habits are. Conversely, if you haven't trashed your tranny yet what are your habits are also, and miles.
Also these the Type S and non Type S share the same tranny?
I'm hoping #1 is safe as I occasionally like the acceleration. Let me know.
Thanks,
Jay

Just enjoy the car. The trannies that are failing are defective, and no matter how you treat them, they will fail.
Stick with fluid changes every 30k, other than that, drive the car however you please. If its defective, it will fail no matter what you do.
