Default Canadian and US alternator

Hey Folks, I purchased a US high ouput alternator for my 97 Civic DX, not knowing there was a difference between the two. (Hey, everything else is compatable....) The difference appears to be the wiring, apparently the US version has an extra wire that goes to the headlights, as well the wiring colours are slightly different.

Aside from the plug itself, is there any physical difference between the alternators? I was going to rewire the alternator harness wiring so that it could be used (minus the extra wire).

(I'm just writing this off the top of my head, I'll post diagram/wiring pics later and any edits if necessary)

Thanks for your help!
