My CEL has dispalyed a bad O2 sensor ever since I got it two years ago. Everyone tells me that that is normal, but after reading threads on here I wonder if in fact I replace the O2 sensor will this correct the problem. I'm only getting an O2 sensor readout from the CEL. But, I assumed this was normal due to the Hi-Flow Cat.

 

it depends on the mods u have done, but i believe that jasper electronics sell something taht tricks the computer to get rid of the CEL..

What are your mods??

 

I/H/E, I have no internal mods, so as I see it, I/H/E are key ingredients to a bad CEL O2 code.

 

I ran a high flow on my Civic for about 4 years and never threw an o2 sensor code. Are you sure the sensor is still good? Maybe it got damaged?

 

Have you actually cleared the CEL? Not just via the "unplug the fuse/detach the batter" methods? The Bad O2 sensor maybe masking another code...

Otherwise replace the O2 sensor ($160)

 

Yes, I've had my local shop clear the code for me, I've also disconnected the battery before, and often pull the fuse just to hide it. I just didnt want to buy a new sensor if I didn't need to. Ok, one more question, maybe a stupid one, but here it goes. If in fact the O2 sensor is damaged, would this in fact hender my performance by causing the car to run too rich or too lean?

 

as long as it has a bung for a o2 it'll be fine

 

theres no reason for the check engine light to be on unless somthing is wrong. the as for the aftermarket cat. setting the check engine light if your OBD2 it can throw a P0420 weak cat. as for OBD1 it doesn't matter what or any cat. is present
