Default 2000 TL Check Engine and TCS lights

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping to find as much help here as I have found for other vehicles on other forums. Anyways, I have a 2000 3.2TL with 93,000 miles. Yesterday I was going to replace the front rotors. I pulled the calipers and was down to pulling the caliper housing bolts, but they were stuck on way too hard, so I put the pads and caliper back on replaced the wheel and all was good, however, after I had driven for about 5-10 minutes after I left the garage, the Check Engine Light came on. Shortly after that (almost immediately) the TCS light came on. I got off the road and parked the car and shut it off. Sat there for about 2 minutes, started the car, and drove off. The CEL was still on, but the TCS light stayed off for about 10 minutes and then came back on. I brought the car into Checker and had them scan it. (what a pain in the ass it is to get at the comp. connection when the center console is full of spare change) anyways, it's giving a code for EGR valve insufficient flow detected. That was stored as both a trouble code and a pending code. I called Buerkle Acura and the service manager said that the CEL and the TCS lights both being on are probably related. I have never heard of two seemingly unrelated items like an EGR valve problem and the traction control system light running in conjunction all for the same problem. Also, how difficult is it to replace the EGR valve on the TL's? I really haven't done a ton of engine work on this car, although I do feel comfortable working on a car. I've heard from some guys I work with that the EGR is cheap but difficult to replace.
Thanks in advance for all the help,
Kurtis

Just to let you know, my wife's MDX did the same thing and I did a lot of research and it was the EGR. When we brought it to the dealer, it was the EGR. Ours was covered under the emission warranty. Check yours to see if it is still covered.

On your MDX the TCS light came on as well as the CEL when the EGR valve was failing? That would be great news right now, as weird as it sounds... I don't need two problems at once. The TCS light stayed off today, so maybe the EGR was just having some trouble yesterday... it's probably on it's way out, but the code was just a pending trouble code. It was really cold and rainy/humid here (Minneapolis) yesterday so maybe it was just kind of an 'off day' for the car. Overall it has been running great. I haven't noticed any performance differences and it idles fine.
Thanks for the response

Yes, as situation as yours. It is supposed to be a very common problem.

as i sit here at my desk in a service lane of an acura dealership let me tell you a little secret...
most of the service advisors have to freakin idea what they are talkin about. Most have the basic knowledge needed to sound smart on the phone but thats it. However, some of them are old service techs, so not all of them are dumb as rocks.

I had the same problem with my car. I have a 3.2 TL 2000. My check engline light stays on and randomly my TCS light will come on. After restarting my car, TCS light goes away, but Check Engine stays on.

I went to Autozone and had the engine code thin run. It came up as something with emissions.

We may have the same problem...anyone have any ideas how to fix this cheap?

clean the hoses that are connected to the egr vavle. the tcs light could be that your cars brake fluid needs to be change. brake change is somewhat difficult
