any ideas on how to separate the axle from the half shaft?

I've got a 95 integra GSR. The axle has been removed, the boot on the inside end of the axle was ripped and butt end of the axle is still connected to the half shaft. any really good ideas?

step on the half shaft and hit the axle with a hammer...usually you have to put an extension on the axle to get a solid hit on it though.
