Front Suspension Squeaking
Any advice is appreciated. I have a 97 CL 3.0 and just the other day I was driving and my front left suspension started making a squeaking sounds (just like a hotel bed). I can reproduce this sound when it is in park just by pushing down on the front fender. This just started so I haven't had a chance to jack it up. I was thinking it was just my shock and maybe it needed to be greased...or something. Again, any info is appreciated and let me know if it is too vague. Thanks.
None what so ever. I will admit, I ride my car pretty good and I am used to what it feels like and I haven't noticed anything. I figured if it was a strut that I would get a "bottoming out" feeling but nothing has really changed. I am the only person who drives it and like I said this just happened while I was driving to the airport. I service my car myself all the time so it hasn't been in anyone else's hands.
It could be many things besides the strut itself. A lot of times the culprit is a bushing somewhere in the suspension (like for the anti-sway bar or the links that connect the sway bar to the suspension). Look for any contact or connection points in the front suspension (could be mounting areas for the springs as well). If any look dried out and or rusted, try spraying some WD-40 and see if it helps. You will have to use a grease or silicone lube for long term solution, but to just find the source, the WD-40 is good enough.
Also look for pivot points in the A-arms, etc. Every joint in the suspension is a suspect! The actual shaft of the strut itself rarely causes noise unless it is totally fried, and I don't think that this is the case here. Likely a rubber bushing that has gotten dirt between rubber and metal or the rubber is brittle and causing the noise from rubbing on metal. Good luck!

Thanks for that info. What you said is sort of what I had in mind and is what I have been hearing...along the lines of lubing it. Thanks again. This will be my project tomorrow morning and I will post if that's the solution. Thanks again!
