Accord Vibration and A/C problems
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I recently purchased a used Honda Accord and failed to check if the a/c (R134A) worked or not. Unfortunately, the a/c doesn't work at all. I'm not sure if the compressor is turning on, but when i hit the ac button with the car idling, the car vibrates quite a bit, and the engine rpms drop. The ac only blows hot air. I just recently checked the freon pressure by connecting a guage to the low side port and came up with a reading up 25 pounds. (Should i add more freon?)
Also, about the vibration... I found out that the front engine mount was cracked, but replacing it improved the idle vibration only slightly. The car vibrates in D and R, but it is hardly noticeable in Park or Neutral. It isn't a continual vibration, it pulsates every second or so. The vibration goes away when the RPM's go over 900.
Can anyone give me any advice on what to do?

the vibration is due to the idle being low. only thing you can really do about that is adjust your idle speed on the throttle body.
it sounds like your compressor is turning on, because when you press the button the compressor kicks in and robs power from the engine, thus the decrease in idle speed and cause of the vibration. as for the 25 lbs of freon, i don't know about that, but you may want to get one of those $ a/c checks at a mechanic. my compressor was kicking in, but the bearings were shot so it got locked up and wouldn't cool the car. it produced a horrible smell, turned my compressor a reddish color and threw metal shavings on everything.
