Need Turbo Help
HELLO EVERYONE.....This is my first post and probably my most important. I need a ton of help trying to boost my car. I just got it last summer and finally have some time to work on it. I don't have the money to buy an actual turbo kit(edelbrock etc...). I have priced out quite a few parts on ebay...excluding the used junk turbo kits people are getting ripped off buying. I'd like to go with an HKS t3 manifold and whatever t3 turbo i can find that works for the time being. My main problem is with the fuel management and fuel system. So if anyone could compile a list or some sort of link to help me turbocharge my 04 ex 2dr. I have a cheap catback and custom iceman intake for now and that's it. So any help would be great....THANKS ALOT!!!!!!!
this is a rough sketch of what you need..
Turbo Manifold- if you're getting a t3 turbo, get a t3 manifold, of course. stay away from obx and ssautochrome, theyre bad news. for that price you can get a cast iron one such as inline pro used.
Wastegate- theres two options you have here. internal or external. external ones run for about 200-300 dollars, assuming you're only boostin 6-8psi. most junkyard turbos come with internal wastegates so i doubt you'll need this.
Turbocharger- look for any junkyard turbo with NO shaftplay whatsoever. I found mine off of a mercedes turbo diesel. $150. in-out shaftplay means the seals are broken, side to side means the bearing is going bad.
Downpipe- get this custom made. you can get flanges from www.cheapturbo.com
Intercooler Piping- once again, custom pipes. you can get pre-bent pipes from kteller.com, jegs.com, etc... just map out the route and figure out the pipes you need.
Intercooler- any side mount intercooler from a 1g eclipse/talon/laser will do. 30-40 bucks. if you got the extra cash, go with a johnny race car intercooler. thats a little under 200.
Blow Off Valve- once again, any blow off valve from a 1g talon/eclipse/laser will do. 40 bucks or so. www.dsmtrader.com
Vacuum Hose and 'T' Fittings- any autoparts store should carry this. nothing special.
Oil Supply and Return Hoses- im not sure about HAN, but at honda-tech theres vendors who sell complete oil kits for 90bucks thats feed, oil return. you may need flanges depending on if the turbo has them or not.
Boost Controller- DIY boost controllers . Its just a simple valve with nipples to connect to the wastegate/vacuum line.
Fuel and Engine Management- since u got a 7th gen, im not too sure of the option u have. so AEM EMS maybe? definately upgrade your fuel pump. you dont wanna blow up your motor since it went lean because your stock fuel pump couldnt compensate for the extra amount of air.

Thanks for the help that does help me some.....I've checked out some links from HAN that are very helpfull. I don't want to go with all junk(anything that will damage my basically brand new car) Also does anyone know if the bosch BOV's on ebay are any good too?they're like 5$..........Thanks
I'd like to start with a decent turbocharger and a very good manifold such as the HKS one. I would like to start with a SMIC and a and other cheap but effective parts. I also like the AEM EMS and the GREDDY piggyback that i seen.
i would trust a stock DSM BOV over any 5 dollar BOV found on ebay. they serve a purpose other than making a noise. that is to relieve the pressure from your charge pipes/turbo as you let off the throttle body.
btw, i forgot to mention. Dyno Time. get your air fuel readings, and get those lines matching as best as possible.

my friend has a 1g dsm and i'm gonna try and salvage anything i can from it. I was just curious about the bosch BOV. I'd like to get one of the adjustable ones. I'd rather have the best of both worlds. I always here mitsus at school with loud bov's which is cool and all but i don't like much attension....Thanks for all your input though...

im pretty sure they've switched out their bovs then.. dsm ones are rather suddle more of a whoosh sound than a ping.
