Default door lock bad on civic

I have a 96 honda civic ex, the drivers side door will not lock either by key, inside door lock latch or transmitter. I removed the door panel and removed the door lock wire from the door latch side and tried to move it with no luck so I figure the lockmotor is bad. I realize I need another door latch but a couple questions come up. How do I check to make sure the door lock/ window module is good powerwise and how do I get that door latch out? I know to remove the 3 screws on the latch itself and the wire going to the key lock but how do I take the door handle wire off?

I just went through my Civic doors. One lock wouldn't go up or down (with switch or by hand). The mechanism was completely ruted, I sprayed it with PB Blaster and smeared grease on it and all the other moving parts I could reach. Let it sit a while then start slowly trying to work the rods that control the lock mechanism. It freed it up enough and now it works. My drivers door had a lot of oxidation in the plug that connects at the hinge of the door. So much that two wires broke off, one to do with the power locks and one to do with the drivers window. I had to splice into the harness at either side of the plug to reconnect the power through the wires. Now everything works.
