Default Speedchip question!

Hi! newbie here,
I do not know a great deal about the workings of cars or modding ect,.
I have a 97 Civic 2 Door Coupe Vti(SOHC Vtec)
I have been browsing through ebay and a saw a thing on there which claimed to give you up to 20 extra hp just by plugging in some sort of resistor link here .
Few questions:
Why is it only $8US?
Does it really do what it claims?
Is it safe?
Is it easy to install?
Is it legal?
I guess i really want to know,...is it worth it?
Anyone played with them?

Don't touch it. It's a weak attempt to fool your ECU into dumping in more gas due to lower charge temps. Nobody would ever gain 20 hp on a dyno by doing this.

it's crap, simply bypasses your intake air temp sensor. Results vary from -6hp to +8hp. And it can result in setting the CEL under certain conditions.
Save your money and buy something worth while.

BTW it's just a $0.05 resistor.

well.. looks like it will make you get like 15 mpg since it uses more gas for preformance.. if it actually works
