Default phantom grip lsd's

i was lookin in the jc whitney mag and saw this. the phantom grip lsd's costing only $300. are these real or like an alternative imitation that is like an lsd, because the lsd's ive been lookin at have been a lot more than that.

thanks adam

they are real and they work, but in an un-conventional and possibly problematic way. They're basically just a little spring-loaded metal block that goes inside your open diff and pushes outward on the spider gear, locking the wheels when power is applied. It really seems like a device like that would cause insane wear and kill your diff pretty quick, but oddly enough, I haven't heard any horror stories. There was a really good writeup on how these things work in Sport Compact Car magazine a year or two ago.
