I need some help
OK this problem is really getting iratating now. It seems something is sucking all the juice from my car (94 del sol Si). I figured it was my amp sucking to much juice from the stock battary so i invested in a nice Optima Yellow Top battary. But today yet again, my stereo died on me then the car died when I stopped at home. What is sucking my car dead?
well since its not the battery (since you just bought a new one) it could possibly be your alternator<sp>. simple way to check that is start your car then fully disconnect your battery, if it dies then its your alternator. and another way to check it just incase your alternator is only putting out minimal amps to keep the battery charged and car running for short amounts of time is to take it to any shop or even Auto Zone and they can check it for you. but IMO thats what it sounds like to me
connect the test light between your ground and the negative battery cable with the car off, key out, and doors shut. if it lights up, that means something is sucking power. Then you just have to figure out what it is
Just to make sure, place a volt meter on the battery with the car running, it should read >12.6 volts. If it reads 12 or under, rev the engine and hope it goes up. If it doesn't rise with reving the engine check out the alternator. But I'm going to assume that it's not the alternator or you'd be asking about your alternator light being on too....
great response.
I'd put it like this though, Like bambrose said, with the car off, key out and doors closed, disconnect the negative OR positive terminal of the battery and place a ohm meter(or test light) in between the battery terminal and the corresponding cable. It should read high resistance (not light up), if it's not you have a drain. Start pulling fuses till the resistance goes away, then you've then found the path that is drawing power. It should be easier from there.
