Default On the way home from NY/NJ witnessed an almost HUGE accident.

We were on I-78 west around the Tamaqua exit around 2:30pm. We were all travelling along at around 75mph. Daughter was sleeping, wife had her eyes closed. So far the 2 hour trip had no real excitement.

For those who know me I do not tailgate, people think I'm driving slow, but I really stay back about 2-3 car lengths. And at the NASA HPDE school I took 2 years ago, my instructor taught me to look through people's windshields.

Well on this day; that very minute I used everything I needed to. I was in the left lane along with a chain of cars. All within about 1-2 seconds I saw brake lights lighting up about 3-4 cars ahead, and two cars' rear ends go up in the air, and then a 18 wheeler locking up brakes (in the right lane) and the trailer was going into a jack-knife. Since I don't tailgate I just slowed down gradually, didn't even get into ABS. But what I couldn't believe was how the 18 wheeler got the trailer to straighten out and not plow over the cars infront of him and next to him  to his great driving skills.

So we came to a hault for about 30 seconds and all of use who were not involved in the accident went around the 2-3 messed up cars. I don't know why we all stopped or what happened. Whew! And it's amazing how cautious you drive when you have a little one in the car.

Having kids, being in an accident or watching a gory accident teaches most people to drive smart.

Yeah, i always drive like that aswell.. ALWAYS looking through windshields, and 100-200 feet ahead in normal city driving. Kinda like an autocross course, but with the cones all moving like crazy fools. I always know what is around me, so i know if i have any escape routes.

but that is one of the main reasons i do not support suv's at all, when in a car, you have no way of looking through the windows, and can hardly see around them. But whenever I am behind something i cant see through, i ride towards the left side of the lane so i can see around them and ahead.

but yeah, if everyone drove like this, it would be great!

i do the same thing...but i always get the assholes that want to tailgate me then zip around and then get in between me and the car ahead of me thats going the same speed as i was making the gap even smaller and then i have to slow down to allow mr. in a hurry get into my spot so he can go the same exact speed i was...because that 20 ft. is going to make him get there soooooooo much faster

Nothing scares me more than other drivers.
I'll laugh at a situation when my car is on the verge of losing control if no one is around. But if there are other drivers around I drive like a granny. Just if someone is watching me I take it easy or if it's a blind corner always. I can't tailgate either, it makes me so nervous.

other drivers = my worst enemy...seems like they are always out to get me when im driving..and my girl always complains because i only do one thing when im driving...well 2...thats DRIVE and listen to the stereo..other then that i dont talk i dont play with my cell phone..i dont read love novels that ive delicately placed on the steering wheel..and yea thats why the only accident ive been in was with my 82 regal when i was 16...sitting at a stop sign and some lady rear ended me in a pontiac festiva at about 45 mph....needless to say her car was totaled and mine just got a bent bumper...like they always say...no matter how fast you drive..everyone going slower then you is a moron and everyone driving faster then you is a f**king idiot
