I appreciate you guys having me, I hope this post isn't redundant. I have a 1995 Acura Integra GS, 4cyl with 128,000mi. Just recently, the car isn't starting when I turn the key. All the dash lights come on, and all the electrical works, but all I get is a >click< when the engine should turn over. I turn the key back and forth, getting that click a few times, then she starts up and runs great. It seems to happen more in the morning, or after it's been sitting for awhile. Does this sound like a starter or ignition switch problem? Thanks to anyone who can shed some light for me. Out here.

 

I'm almost certain it's the starter. Sounds exactly like what happened to my '94 LS over the past couple of weeks. When it started, it would run fine. The problem was getting it started. Anyway, I don't have any experience replacing starters, so I took mine to a local shop. Total cost was $201 and change. If you're the DIY-type, some of the prices I've found online range from $165-225 for rebuilt starters. Good luck.

 

Sounds like the starter to me. It's simple to replace. 2 bolts and a wire.

 

yeah. any body can look at it and put it on. not hard at all. btw its the starter

 

definitely starter...but the left bolt is a BITCH to get to.

 

Wobbly socket extension + medium socket extension = golden.

 

the wobbler would've been a god-send to me. but i had to do the ol' angled-socket approach h:

 

I broke my socket extension and ended up having to use a wrench, hammer, and a piece of 2X4 Getting that bolt out took longer than any other portion of the fix.

BTW, it's definitely your starter. I didn't get a new one, however. I took mine apart, found the copper contacts, sanded the black pits down, and reinstalled. It's been working like a charm for over a year now.

 

My teg has been having the same problem for a while now. Most of the time it starts up fine, but occasionally it'll just click when I turn the key for a few tries. I just haven't had the time to change out the starter yet.

 

I have a 94 RS that had a similar problem. It was the relay not the starter. I found a site that said it gets hot and condensation builds up in the relay box. I drilled some holes in the box and never had the problem again. Does it only happen during hot/humid days?
