Default ever wondered how they come up with that?

I was watching this show on roller coasters, and the narator said: "your most likely to die in a car accident driving to the amusment park and to die on one of the rides." now it hit me, that such a statistic is very precise! like the probabilities of die on a ride i get. But the probabilitie of die while driving to get to the amusment park??? they actually have statistics on how many people died every year DRIVING TO A AMUSMENT PARK?!?! If so how precise is it, I mean alot of drivers died driving something, but how can others know where they are going? THEY DEAD! just dont see how they came up with that assuption!

it's the sheer numbers of it.. someone dies in a car accident like once every 5 minutes or something like that.. the rate of death on amusement park rides is considerably less

Right but so they estimate... Cause someone could argue that the statement is completly false right! for exemple saying because when people drive to the amusement park, they are extra carefull because of the fact that the kids are in the car, or its a day off so they speed less or any amount of different circumstances...

even still. Car accidents are much much higher than in the park accidents.

I don't think it's literally meant "driving to the amusement park". I think it was just meant as driving in general (or just being in a car). They just added "to the amusement park" to make the statistic more interesting.

5% driving to the amusement park is fine with me

its 5% driving, that means its 5% driving to teh grocery store, 5% driving to the mall, etc etc. i don't think it matters where you're going, it's still 5%, average of course

well not really considering the amount of time driving, and the benefits of driving! i find that it is not bad not bad at all! specially thinking that i guess alot of those people are DUI... If they could find a way to reduce that then hey i think we are doing pretty damn well!

If you studied statistical analysis at al you would understand what that number means on the grand scale.

5000 out of a million is a lot of people and when you multiply that by the number of people in the nation it grows again. Is this a daily accident number or an annual?
