Default Difference between DOHC and VTEC?

Aright, I was discussing this with some friends the other day and we couldn't come up with much. What is the difference between VTEC and any other DOHC motor. They both change to a different cam at a certain RPM right? But then I've also heard of SOHC VTEC, how does that work? 2 sets of lobes on the same cam?

*sigh* I know what they both stand for. But I was given incorrect information on DOHC. I understood it as using 1 camshaft and switching to the other at a certain point. But after doing more research it would appear as though all it allows you to do is have more valves per cylinder.

Not really...but it does allow seperate cams to be used on different valves.
