Weird ticking noise after valve adjustment?
Today my friend did a valve adjustment on my car, at first he did .005 on the intake and .007 exhaust. When he was finished i took it out for a ride and noticed that midrange pulled really nice, however, top end just wasn't there, i could barely feel vtec kick in. Also i noticed a loud ticking at idle and even louder when the car is on load. You could say it sounds like a diesal VW. So i go back and i asked him what he adjusted them to, he told me and i knew that the intake was off so i told him to re-adjust them to .007 int and .008 exh. So he did and the ticking noise is still there. What could it be?
Sounds like a bad valve adjustment. I'd read a DIY guide and try again or take it to a shop.
BTW, isn't it supposed to be .006" for intake and .007" for exhaust, or is that just for the B18C1?

hey guys, did you make sure to rotate each cylinder to TDC before clearancing the valves? if not, you adjusted the valves that were open to have a clearance when they weren't supposed to, which would make them even noisier when they were closed. just a suggestion. good luck.
yea i just did mine in about an hour flat, propped the car up so the drivers wheel was off the ground, and my engine sounds brand new. well, it is, but now at least it doesnt sound like a diesel. as long as you rotate the crank so every piston is TDC and go in the 1-3-4-2 firing order, youll be fine. but if you didnt know that stuff, like dave said, get a professional
make sure the engine is cold when you make any adjustments, I had mine done at an Acura dealer at 90K and it was loud when I picked it up. I brought it back and the guy told me it was still warm when adjusted. He re did it and everything was normal.
