Default Towing with an '88 Integra?

I own an '88 Integra LS and I am thinking about hauling it on a trailer when I go down to New Mexico with my dad to save gas and then hauling the empty trailer back with me when I come home to Washington (1200 mile trip). The car has 169,000 miles on it with a very strong well maintained engine and a stick. The trailer is a 20' flatbed built for hauling an average automobile. I am curious as to whether or not it owuld be safe or dammaging to my car to haul the trailer back. Any information would be much appreciated! I'd take a different car but the only other vehicle i have is a pickup that gets like 5 mpg...

An empty trailer isn't too heavy, but it will definately stress the poor little engine and trans. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge, and take long and frequent breaks (sit down lunch, browse visitor's stations) to let the mess cool down.
