Default Wheel/Tire help

This is my first time posting here but been reading the forums for some time now. Have a 99 integra gs for almost a year now and would like to get some new wheels for it. I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff but im learning slowly. What do you guys think I should get for wheels and tires:

RH Evolution CP8-R in black
Velox VX-8R in gunmetal

Toyo Proxes T1-S - 215/40ZR17
Falken Azenis ST-115 - 215/40ZR17

Tell me if I'm doing anything wrong or if theres better than this. Thanks in advance.

Personally I like the the Velox better, nice thin spokes.

Get the Proxes, the Azenis have low life and are mainly suitable for autocrossing. You'll be changing them every 15-20k miles if you're lucky.

:goodjob: Both sound like great choices. I'm partial to the Toyos... I can't speak to how the Falken tires compare. h:

The real issue IMHO is mileage, and application.

If you only put 4,000 to 5,000 miles per year on your car (w/o auto-x).. I'd go with the Toyos. If you need a longer running tire, perhaps something along the lines of the Yokohama AVS or AVID series is more appropriate.

Lastly, welcome to HAN. Enjoy your stay with us.

It's for street use as it is my daily driver and I put less than 10k miles a year. I'll look on the Yokohama AVS for longer running tire. My question is what is the diffrence in tire size 205/40/17 against 215/40/17 as both will fit the wheels. Are 17x7.5 wheels to big to fit in my teg?

the 215mm ones are just a tad wider (10mm, duh ) Depending on whether (or how far) you're lowered, you'll have more clearance issues with the 215 section-width tires. 7.5" is pretty wide for an integra, if you can get a 7" version, I'd go with that (also for clearance reasons).

May I ask why, specifically, you decided to go with 17" wheels? If you just like the look, thats cool... but 16 inchers will ride a little smoother, tires will be cheaper, and you'll have less rubbing issues. 15 inchers even less so. Plus, they wont make your brakes look like dinky little tea-saucers.

As far as tires go, for a daily driver performance tire, I'd go with either Yokohama AVS ES100 or Kumho 712's. Both offer decent grip, decent treadlife, and a reasonable price. If I had to compare the two, I'd say the kumholios are a little better in the wet, but aside from that, they feel almost identical from behind the wheel.

:edit: oh yeah, welcome! :wavey:

Also, with anything wider than 205 section on a DC, your tire contact patch changes radically - for the worse in most cases. I'd stick with 205s. The car will tend to "tramline" under braking - the front tires will follow the wiggling undulations in the roadway, much like a tram on rails. Not fun.

The wheels I like only come in 17"s or higher so yes it's for looks. I'll try to find some 16" wheels so I won't have any rubbing problems. Thanks for your advice, still learning about car stuff as this teg is my first car ever.

I have the kumho ecsta, had the AVS intermediate, that was replaced by the ES 100. Yoko a superior tire IMHO, though I have not driven the new ones. I don't know if I would go to a 17 for a street/daily driver, you can get most of the tits tires in 16, 15 sort of limits you.

I'd go for the RH wheels with 205/40/17 tires. I'd also recommend the AVS ES 100's. If the wheels that you're planning on getting is 17x7.5", might I suggest an offset of at least +42mm.
