ok. whats the general consensus on used flywheels; specifically 18000mile type r flywheels.(never been resurfaced/shaved/anything)
if it can be had for cheap -should it be had??

The R flywheel is lighter, so it would definitely be worthwhile if you could get it for cheap. I would still resurface prior to putting it on though.

 

of course id resurface it if i got it. but my point is-it should be fine(having only 18000miles and never yet been resurfaced) right? right?

 

Unless it was abused for those 18K, it should be fine.

 

Resurface and balance it, and you should be fine

 

if you have the tools to do it... check its runout.. might be a reason hes dumping it

basically you need equipment to do it.. BUT its the same principle as checking a brake rotor.

you spin the rotor or flywheel using a micrometer and check its runout.. the deviation of the surface (warp).

machine shop could do it... but at that point you own it anyway :thumbup:
