Can the primary 02 sensor be male or female ????

Can the primary 02 sensor be male or female ????
I have a 99 honda civic lx 4l 1.6 SOHC and im getting a p0135 code . But the thing is my primary 02 sensor is not even plugged in to anything . It has a female plug and there are two plugs by the distributor and they are also female . The secondary 02 sensor is male and is plugged in . Can you get a primary 02 sensor that is also male or female. Or is there something wrong with the wiring. Any help will be great.
