Default Longer Oil Filter - What's the advantage?

I know, this is probably a noobie question, but I've seen a couple posts regarding longer filters and I don't know what the benefit would be...

I can see maybe longer life, but not by much. You should change your oil every 3000-4000 miles anyway.

You know I just got my '02 on Sunday and I nearly pooped in my shorts when the salesman told me Honda recommends you change the oil in 10.5K intervals! I didn't believe him until I looked in the manual and saw for myself.

Of course, like anything, it says to adjust these intervals according to your driving habits... (or should I say abuse) :naughty:

are you serious??!??! thats crazy. I can't sleep at night if I know my car has gone one mile over 3000 since my last oil change.

I know it! I've always been pretty faithful myself...

like I said, though... I know some people beat the piss out of thier cars, so I'm sure they shouldn't go the full recommended mileage...

alot of good oils can withstand breakdown, letting them last longer... but oil filters are the issue since they get so dirty quickly, having longer oil filter may help increasing the time between oil changes
