my friend cut my bumpstops

Default my friend cut my bumpstops

when my friend helped me install my H&R sports with KYB AGX's, he cut the bumpstops in half... today, when i was reading my info from H&R, they said specificly do not cut the bumpstops.... am i looking for trouble if i dont replace them?

Hmm ... that seems strange to not cut the bumpstops. Every suspension I've done, I've cut the bumpstops. I'd say you should be fine and don't need to replace them.

yeah he told me he always cuts em... i didnt think anything of it, experience usually over rides instinct.... just got a little nervous when i saw the directions.... didnt put the dust guards on either and that still has me a little nervous

what would cutting the bump stops do? reduce bouncing? i am curious cuz i have no idea.

The bump stops are intended to provide a degree of "cushioning" once the suspension reaches the end of its travel and bottoms-out. In other words, if you were to totally remove the springs from the car, it would be resting on the bump stops. The idea of cutting the stops when installing a lowered suspension is to increase the amount of travel before hitting the stops (in order to try to compensate for the lost travel resulting from lower height).

Some bump stops are actually designed as a sort of " additional spring" (rather than a simple "stop) providing a added form of progressiveness to the spring rates in the last portion of the travel.

hmmm... should i put the dust covers back on? i know it will be a bitch but i dont wanna kill my struts...

eibach springs instruct you to cut the bumpstops. my H&Rs said not to. so i didnt. :dunno:

yes. they are there for a good reason.

and i wouldnt worry about your bumpstop problem too much.
