Default My 240SX and my problems, help me

Hey, here are some problems I am having with my 240, and I need to know what yall think I shall do. I got a 96 240SX SE. I know this is off topics, but id really like the help.

1) My car wont start. The battery wasnt tied down, and it seems the clap is just too loose. So im guessing i need to buy new clamps. But theres a small red box next to the clamp, and Im wondering if I can damage it.

2) My windshield is starting to crack, in 3 different places. All from little stone chips. One has lines that are about 2 inches long, the others dont have lines yet. Should i call glass auto repair guys (i dont even know the price) to come fix it, or should i forget about it and buy a new one soon(how much?), before i have to go get inspected.

3) I need new rear struts. I am not sure of cost, but should I go OEM or aftermarket. I dont care about which handles better, im concerned with price. Also, is it a job my pops and I can do, or should i get it done at the shop.

4) The throwout bearing on my clutch is very worn, i need a new one. My dad says we can do it, and replace the whole clutch while we are at it. About how much will it cost us to do it, compared to a shop. The clutch seems like way too much work for us to handle.

thanks.

1. I dunno about your car not starting.. far as the battery tie downs, just goto your HELP section of Autozone or something and buy new ones. More info on the car not starting.. could be anything from shot starter (is the thing even cranking?) to ignition.. hell the fuel pump. What happened the last time she ran?

2. Sounds like your windshield is hosed... replace it. The windshield is a very important part of a unibody car.. or anycar really. In a rollover situation your windshield is key in keeping the roof from crushing.. IE: you dying. I'm not totally sold on window 'repair'.

3. Go with cheap OEM or monroe etc struts if performance is not an issue to you. My brother has a 91 240SX, but ive never looked it over. I'm not sure how big of a challenge it'll be. You can probobly do it yourself easily, but you'll need spring compressors etc.. this can be dangerous work if not done right. Rent or buy the proper spring compressors for the job.

4. Doing a clutch on a RWD car is cake. I can have the clutch replaced on my Mustang in like 2.5 hours if i haul ass. Your dad is right though.. dont replace just the TO bearing.. do the whole thing. Also get your flywheel resurfaced and if it looks like total garbage REPLACE it.. or you will be back in there soon! Make sure you torque down the pressure plate and flywheel properly (and in 3 stage torque... if you're careful like me) and align the clutch friction disc well.. otherwise you'll have a real fun time getting the input shaft back in there. The average clutch 'kit' (pressure plate, disc, and TO) is like anywhere from 150-250.00 depending on the make/model of the car.. so check around.

I reccomend calling AITA Clutch at:

Aita Clutch Inc 310-671-8796 4688 W Imperial Hwy Inglewood CA 90304
Aita Clutch Inc 310-638-1986 960 S Santa Fe Ave Compton CA 90221

They sell good OEM (like Valeo etc) clutch kits for SILLY cheap. The dealer and everyone else wanted like 290 for the clutch in my girlfriends Escort (i know i know) .. AITA sold it to me for 105.00 shipped.

Just be safe and use the right tools.. you can do it. This car is pretty new.. what the hell happened to it?! Sounds like you put it through hell

... these are just a poor mans opinions.

Well, I bought the car a few weeks ago, so I havent given it a hard time. The thing also has the engine rebuilt about a year ago. It cost the previous owner a grand more than I payed for it just to rebuild the engine.

1) From the first day I got it my pops and I noticed the battery was loose and not tied down, we just didnt do anything about it, yet. So it used to take the car like 4 cranks to start up, now when you try to crank it the power to the whole car goes out.

2) I guess its too late to fix it anyways. But I can find a price quote for a new windshield.

3) I guess we'll just go down to autozone and but the struts and rent the compressor. Now, should I go ahead and replace the front shocks while I'm at it, or is ok to just replace the rear?

4) Thanks, but that AITA place is in compton and inglewood (dr dre and snoop dogg fo sho') and im in Texas, so do they do shipping? I'd call, but its hella long distance.

Also, i need a new muffler. I dont want to spend much money, i dont care about added hp, i just want something that is silent and sound stock, or something with a deep tone. I dont want any rattling or fart can sound, so would like a muffler be easy to install?

thanks
