Default synthetic oil users, how often do you change your oil?

just wondering cause once I changed my oil at ~ 3000 miles interval and the oil was not totally black, so i thought it might be a waste of $$$ to change every 3000 miles since it's not fully used

how often do u change it? my car is 97 LS 69k miles and i m thinking of 5000 miles interval instead. is it a safe interval to get my money worth? if i use regular, i'll do it every 3000 miles since it's cheap, but mobil one synthetic is not cheap and i m trying to get the most out of it...

thanks.

3500 mile intervals, although it's more an issue of age rather than miles currently. The Integra racks up far fewer miles than her predecessor....h:

is it true that once you start using synthetic oil, that you can never go back to using regular oil again. I was just going to try it for a while to see if it made a difference, but my friend told me once you put it in you have to keep using it or it messes up the engine somehow... wasn't sure if it was true

unless you're driving under extremely harsh conditions, it's a waste of money and oil to change synthetic any sooner than 7500 miles or so.

Not true, its a myth. On the Castrol website, it says "its not true, but why would you want to change back to regular oil when you can use Castrol Full Synthetic" or something like that

You could technically leave the oil in for long periods of time, but at least change the filter out at around 5,000 or so if it's a good filter like a Mobil 1 or Purolator Pure One. The oil can last a while, but when the filter gets clogged it's just bypassing the dirty oil through your engine.

i don't use synthetic on my integra. but as a point of reference, my girlfriend's mercedes uses mobil1 synthetic. suggested oil change interval from the factory is 10k miles. :eek3:

i've read that synthetic oil starts to break down only at around 3000 or more miles, whereas conventional starts to break down almost immediately. that said, if you're going to drain your oil every 3k or so, stop wasting your money and switch to conventional, because you're wasting the benefits of synthetic.

hell, even in the helms manual it suggests 7500 mile oil change intervals (subject to driving conditions), and it doesn't even mention synthetic.
