ever since i got my GSR i have been wanting to get an R. when the time comes, what advantages will i get with an R that i wouldnt have with a WRX or an older M3 ( like 97 98). all of these are possibilities, and while i want an R because it is better than my GSR, i dont know that i can justify getting one over a WRX or M3.

 

there is no justification. WRX is the way to go. M3 will break down. And when it comes down to it, the WRX will always be faster than a comparible ITR

 

the wrx is not that much ebtter a car i own a 94 gs-r and a 2002 wrx. the gs-r is barlly slower from a roll like im talking 1 car in 80mph from a stop the wrx jumps like 5 cars from the begging but a type r would be faster then a wrx after the launch. the type r would also handel better then the wrx the wrx does handel well but nothing comparable to type r. if u like road racing then go type r, if your a straight line guy go for wrx. WRX doe shave the offroading appeal and if u get one do take it out in the mud it's fun as hell

 

a good question you might ask yourself is what you wanna do with your car.

daily driver?
daily driver w/ occasional track/drag event?
dedicated track/drag car?

Sorry, but everyone and their moms are in WRXs.... Just having a car as rare as the itr is enough for me.. Just the maintaining the M would be a car payment alone. I test drove everything before I bought my R.. It's all about what is pratical for you. Just take your time.. Good Luck.. BTW I'm happy with my choice...

i just sold my 95 bmw 325is and i'm over bmw's the e36 m3s are great cars, but...the parts are $$$. i will say this, the itr is one of few japanese cars that gets respect on bimmerforums.com and other bmw message boards, so it must be pretty damn good. i'm looking for a '00 or '01 type r. the rarity alone will hold the r's value over time.

itr:
the itr is a very affordable car for both daily driving and track events. good mileage, low maintenance cost, honda reliability. the car yearns to be driven hard.

wrx:
i can't say much about the subaru. i've never owned a subaru nor driven the wrx. i've only had the pleasure of riding in one. it has instant power; read, low end torque. on top of that, it has 4-doors and a trunk. it would be a car you can enjoy driving to run errands as well as take it to the track and be competetive. however, i can't comment about the reliability or the build quality.

now that's a car i'd love to own as well. you're looking at the e36 right? check out some of the other bmw forums such as:

it admitedly has more "panache" and is more "sophisticated". when it comes to reliability, i hear two sides of the story. many report that the car is bulletproof and very reliable. others complain about the headache of frequent maintenance. bottom line i'd say is finding a well kept and maintained one. a solid and fast car that has a lot of aftermarket support; albiet expensive.


i'll post a "biased" answer and suggest you get an itr. it won't give up much, if any, performance to the wrx or the m3. you will also get legendary honda reliability. the only bad thing about the itr is the high theft rate. if you don't have a covered garage to keep your car, you might wanna think again about getting one. if you are not aware, they are coveted by theives.
