Default 15.9 GSR w/ Intake GooD?

Well i hit up the tracks yesterday, this is my first time going, I have a 95 GSR w/ a AEM cold air and i hit a 16.2 then a 15.9. We got in 2 runs, is that time decent? If I had a VTeC controller would you guys think it would help my time? If so, how much? thanks

What's your 60' ? I've pulled 16.28 with my Eclipse and your GSR should definitely be faster.

Drag racing is about consistency and it has a lot to do with the driver. Your times are a little on the slow side, but they will improve with practice. What were your 60ft times? 1/8 mile et and MPH? 1/4 mile MPH?

A VTEC controller isn't going to help drop your times. If you had other supporting mods like a header, high flow cat, and an exhaust, a VTEC controller would help to optimize these parts and ultimately your times should be quicker ... but you can be quicker with practice. Then when you add more mods/HP/TQ, you'll be even faster than before.

Practice, practice, practice.

In all honesty, your times are pretty high.

It may be the altitude... what's your elevation ?

Last time you had a tuneup?

And ... as before... practice practice practice. Some guys can hit 14.9 with just an intake.

Alright, I'll say it.

16.2/15.9 is pathetic for a '95 GS-R in lower elevations.

I ran my RX-7 in stock condition last October with a clogged exhaust system and questionable 6-ports. With wussy launches, I got a 16.2 1/4et, 2.3x 60'. This is in a similar weight car with a slight RWD advantage, but I'm figuring I had about a whopping 110 wheel horsepower at best (I've dyno'd it with mods since, so that would be a fair estimate.)

Your best investment would be practicing launching. Find what works best and try to duplicate it

Thanks for the honesty everyone, I'm only 16, so I got times to work on my launching. 15.5 is the stock time, 14.9 with an intake is just amazing. I'm running on 15" Kuhmo's, soon to get some Neo-Gens on 17", might mess up my times but ill stick better, i hope

17" rims will slow you down more if anything. Stick to 15s for the track, and 17s while you're out pimpin it.

DEFINETELY get some 15" rims for the track or even run on the stock wheels and tires. I can pull consistent 2.20 60 foots on the 185/65/14 stock tires and even an occasionaly freak 2.1. 15.9 is a bit slow of a obd1 GSR, some bolton civic ex guys can hit 15.9

Just for comparison, my friend's gsr ran 9.7 in the 1/8 mile tonight with 2.3 60 foots @ around 72-73 mph. My intake/header 91 sentra ran 9.1 @ 74.5...mmm nothing like a 1.9 60 foot raping WRX's out of the hole.
