I've been looking for a cat back for quite a while and finally decided to go custom. I've researched and found lots of different opinions on the sound of different systems. So I decided that I need to learn some basics about exhaust systems so that I can make a decision for myself. Instead of asking how a system sounds I want to know why it sounds and flows the way it does. Where can I go to learn this information? The manufacturers web sites aren't very helpful, and dealers only tout the brands they sell. I want to know what is in all those different cans, cats, and resonators. How much differnce does the shape of the can make? The type of material from which they are made? How much difference does a straight through design make? Basically I need to find a beginners primer on exhaust systems. Can anyone help me out?

SMSP is answering your questions on Honda-Tech. I woudl say he is a good resource. I woudl say call him (Dave) or IM him and see what he can teach you.

He is an expo sponsor as well so be sure and thank him for helping us make the expo awesome!

Yeah, he is a great source of info. I just have so many questions about basic stuff I hate to ask him to write several paragraphs of explanation. I don't even know what the different types mean. (N1, GS, et cetera)

Do yourself a favor, go buy a book called "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell, he covers exhaust pretty well.

I've heard that is the bible for anyone interested in setting up a custom turbo system. I don't know if I want to spend that kind of money just to learn about exhausts, but I think I'll be buying it in a few years anyway.

That kind of money? It's like a $20 book off amazon.com

Hey guys, do you know of a book that's come out more recently than Corky's book? I believe that book was written in like 1984 and a lot of technology has changed in the last 20 years.
