Random question - how to deal with doing your best - and it being terrible?
Case in point - I can't get my Subaru to run a 13 second qtr mile in its current state. best so far is 14.22 at 98.6mph.
How am I dealing with it? I'm not doing too well - drag racing is so ego driven and pissing contest based. Everyone on the interent says you suck as a driver or your car sucks and that you wasted all your time and money.
So drag racing isnt your thing - there's a small Kart track that hosts time attack events for actual street cars - so its more like an autocross course. My best time there is 50.49 seconds. Track records for similarly prepared cars is in the 47-48 second range. Hell - one of the regulars there runs mid 49s in his A048 advan slick equipped prius.
I dont think I've done my best, as of course things take practice, It's just hard to stay motivated. One moment you're totally having fun, and then you realize your fun is being smoked by a prius.

Well, yeah. Do it because it's fun, not because you want to be the best at it. Your ego is the problem.
Or if you really want to be the better at it, enroll in an SCCA or NASA school and have a real pro teach you what you're doing wrong.

I can't say that my "best" is "terrible" per se, but medical school has been a humbling event. I was typically the top 2 grades or so in undergrad, and started med school quite a bit above the average score, but everyone has caught up. People are smart. :hs:
There are things we are great at, and things others are great at. I'm seeing this more and more everyday.
