Type R:

Pro-- Lighter w/ better build quality than any Mitsu (previous owner of an '01 Eclipse). Much cheaper to both own and maintain.

Con-- FWD. AWD will almost always handle better, especially in the case of the Evo. If you're looking to mod, Evo will definitely keep the traction.

Evo:

Pro-- AWD and turbo. Excellent traction and handling. Evo is also much faster and will run mid-high 13's straight out of the box. Turbocharged engine and forged internals means you can up boost and get more hp cheaper than N/A.

Con-- AWD and turbo. Very expensive to maintain and more drivetrain parts to fix. Reliability and build quality have not been proven. You absolutely have to stay on top of the maintenance if you don't want stuff going wrong. Sticker price is already $10k-$15k higher than how much you would pay for an R... not counting the shitty markup all the dealers charge. Last con I'd have to say is that in the U.S., the differentials are crap compared to Japan. No limited-slip in the front, no Active Center Diff, and a simpler, less responsive limited-slip diff in the rear.

I own ITR, but you would be a fool if you didn't get the EVO. That car has been proven on the tracks of japan , pikes peak, and the WRC etc. I love my ITR and would never trade it in so i'm going to buy an EVO right along with my ITR. For years we have been waiting for that beast from the east to come here and it finally has. But at the same time Subaru is bringing that STi here also man that car is wicked too! reduced weight, no air conditioning, auto/manual water sprayer, no sound system, and only one type of transmission Manual. man it's a tuners dream (if you like Subaru's me personally I like the Suzuki Aerio don't be sleep!) oh and did I mention it comes with 300HP plus 300TQ?

You need to be careful about the STi's. Word from the Subaru Tuners is the new US STi 2.5L motor does not stand up well at all to mods and they do not recommend tuning of these new motors. Pirouz the NASOIC boards and it doesn't look like the STi is going be very tuner friendly. Also, Subaru published an announcement stating that the current 6 speed gearbox utilized in the US STi isn't capable of handling 350 hp in the new engines ('06) they're developing, once again indicating the lack of reliability of the upcoming STi.

I would also argue Subaru has a pretty bum record for warranty repairs and if you were to come in with either a failed tranny or blown motor, you would be guilty before innocent in their eyes as to whether the failure was abuse related or a manufacturing defect. Their record on WRX 5 speed gearbox failures speaks volumes on their committment to warranties and standing behind their product.

The grass isn't always greener someplace else.....

Jury is still out on the EVO, but it sounds better on paper than the STi, but only time will tell.

TypeR 801 Your right about that. In Japanese performance Magazine they were talking about the dealerships and there guilty before innocence stance Over in the UK. They're Subaru crazy over there! the dealership said though in the UK that if you take your car on the track your warranty is immediatly blown. but when you read about the specs (STi) you know it makes you say damn, but on the Subaru WRX a lot of things you say are right though the gearbox is a shotty peace of shit. The STi specs are better then the EVO right? in the end I would still get the EVO any day over the STi!

lets show them cocksuckers that the ITR still out classes them!

Apples and Oranges my friend, these cars are so different, there is no comparing them, the ITR is hands down the ultimate front drive race car that is street legal. The EVO on the other hand has boost and awd, ultimate holeshot potential.

If any of you guys get a chance, check out the March issue of the English magazine CAR.. They have articles on the WRX Sti, Evo, RX8... etc. The Evo looks great but the 300 hp WRX Sti that we'll be getting over here sounds totally wild!!
