Horn Wiring in a '90 RS - Advice?
Hey:
K, my RS is over 256K now, and still ticking... tho a bit loudly.
Next on the list of maintenance: new exhaust pipe and muffler (tho the latter is covered by a lifetime muffler warranty I got on an genuine Honda/Acura one from 8 years ago), might have to have the alternator replaced again - getting that electrical light sporadically), get the oil-pressure sensor changed...
THe one thing that is weirding me out - and a couple of mechanics - is the horn. One of my horns went last year. During a 240K Type D service check, the Acura dealer mechanic I usually (and now used to) go to removed both units, saying that their was some kind of electrical short in them and he would replace them when parts came in. Never happened, he got fired that week, never wrote it on the work-order, and the new service manager is telling me that they never removed them. (Casino Acura in Hull - they used to be great, but the mgt and personnel have all changed and the service is really below par, imho.)
Does anyone know how the horns are wired - ie. where the wires in the front bumper lead to? I bought a basic $20 horn and tried to install it myself. I attached the wires to the horn, but when I start the car and press the steering wheel button, there is no horn, and it blows a fuse located in the engine compartment near the firewall. This fuse affects my transmission interlock, so I can't shift into reverse or drive. I replaced the fuse and it was ok, but had to unwire the horn. I reversed the polarity of the wires, and still no luck -same deal. I was thinking that if I could run a new pair of wires directly from the horn to wherever those wires end up, maybe I could bypass the short. I checked my Chilton guide, but its useless.
Any comments or wisdom?
Thanks!

Whoa!!!... Follow-up: today the battery light is flickering at low (sub-2000) revs... holy yikes. I guess its alternator time. And at the same time, some mystery and loud hole in the exhaust just got bigger... when it rains, it pours.
This Integra of mine is going on its 4th alternator in 4 years - I'm starting to think there's some kinda electrical weirdness going on with my car - anyone ever had a similar issue, or know of a syndrome?
Thanks!

i would part that thing out before it burns my garage down! you can make a lot of money.... but if you want, ill trace the wires from the horns on mine as far back as i can, cut them, and ship em to ya cheap. lemme know via pm, im getting rid of my parts car very soon so you dont have a lot of time to think about it.
