My d16z6 ticks after its warmed up and i have seen 2002 Honda civics do the same thing. Do other people with sohc notice this?? I dont think dohc have as loud as tick

the car is fine, check the valve lash and change the oil.

 

check the valve clearance. it shouldn't be too loud...bu the sound will be there.

 

And some tick on Honda engines comes from injectors. Can't be eliminated.

 

my h22a1 sounds like a beehive most of the time. ive also adjusted my valves about 4 times at least over the past year. dont get me wrong, adjustment quiet's everything down considerably...but when you redline every gear on every shift the valves get loose again pretty quickly.

blackludeSH and I met up a while back to "drive around" at the local spot. his motor was far newer than mine and had a handful of miles on it, and his h22a4 was a tad louder than my car, valve wise. he has also never adjusted it so its basically factory adjustment. goes to show even late model hondas do it when you beat on em.

Solid lifters don't help either, my DSM(god I hate it) has hydrualic lifters and it's quiet and smooth so long as one of them isn't "dry".

 

I had a 99 civic EX coupe and one day it started ticking, so about 2 weeks went by and I went down and had the valves adjusted, I changed the oil, it still ticked. Later that night the same day, I made a 60 mile trip to the next city. On the way back, the ticking got louder, and then it turned into a knocking sound, then the car started slowing down, and then died. After being towed back to home, I pulled the head off, and checked it out, Nothing. I then dropped the pan, and found metal flakes everywhere. #1 Cyl rod bearing was gone. You better get your engine checked out. My civic only had 71000 miles on it.
