Default B17 = B16 Buildpath

I was wondering, since the b17 seems to be a near copy of the b16 are the two similar enough to except the same parts. i.e. would a ITR header bolt up to a b17 since it can be fitted to a b16 head?

Also was the b17 a US only engine and why do some people say it excepts boost well? I remember Mr.Fatbooty making that comment once altough I could be mistaken.

Yup, an ITR header should bolt right up, same bolt pattern. Any stock B series Honda engine can respond well to reasonable amounts of boost. I would say 8lbs of boost should be perfectly fine on a stock engine, 12-15 if it's perfectly tuned

The B17 has a nice stroke length compared to the bore, and it's CR is in a nice comfortable range, couple that with available B16 head parts, and yes, it will accept boost pretty well.

a basic socket set and a cheater bar were all I used to do the rear disc swap, let me know if you have any questions about it.

The B17 is indeed a US-only motor. It was made in Japan but only sold in the '92-'93 GSR (G2 tegs with VTEC were called RSi and XSi in Japan and had a B16).

B16 and B17 heads are identical. They do indeed have the same part number cast into them.

People say the B17 takes to boost well because it starts out with a CR of 9.7:1 which provides for a bit less detonation. At this point any motor you get your hands on will be 9-10 years old. I would be hesitant to just slap on any sort of forced induction setup without doing a rebuild on the motor first.

Thank you for all the replies, its good that the B17 has an identical head and such similar characteristics as the B16, makes things a bit simpler. Two more questions, does the G2 have the same suspension setup as the G3 Integra and the engine gasket kit for a B series is what... around 1k right?

Second Gen and third Gen Integra Suspensions are different. You might be able to interchange the springs(although I'm not too sure about that), but the dampers are different part numbers.

For Mr. Fatbooty,
I just bought a 92" GSR with the old B17 engine. I was thinking about bolting on an AEM induction set-up. You stated that the engine should be "re-built" first. What does this
"rebuild" involve?

You are just slapping on an intake...that doesnt apply to you. He was talking about boosting with a turbo or supercharger. "Building" involves replacing or refinishing/checking everything in the motor... pistons, rods, crank, bearings, etc..
