Hi - I'm going to be purchasing a 98 Civic Hatch (automatic transmission), and I had a question...when it's cold, the shifter doesn't want to go into park and I have to wait till the car warms up in order to park...this happened in my 91 Integra too, and I couldn't figure out the solution...anyone know what it could be? I need to complete the sale by today, and might use your suggestions to knock down the pricing for that to be repaired...please let me know ASAP...thanks!

 

Most likely, sounds like the tranny is going or can use a ATF change...

I would pass on this car and find one without a major problem.

 

hmm...so it couldn't be related only to the shifter itself...

Any other thoughts?

 

Maybe the shift lock solenoid is going bad but hard to tell without seeing the car.

 

I had the guy who owns the car take it into Honda to see exactly what was wrong, and turns out it needed a new cable and water pump - total repairs, 800.00 - so looks like I'll be getting more of a break on the car now with the repairs done. I think I'm going for this car anyhow...
