question about 99 motor in 95 civic?
how hard would it be to swap in? i know skunk2 makes an adapter is that all i would need? i got offered the tranny with the motor for free and i was just wondering what else i would need?????
I'm assuming your refering to a '99 Civic Si with a DOHC VTEC B16A2. You can't use the '99 harness in your '95, they're a completely different design. The '92-'95 Civic's use 2 seperate harness, one on the engine that comes out with it and one in the car that stays there and connect to the ECU. '96+ Civic's use 1 single harness that connects to the engine, goes through the firewall and right to the ECU. The whole thing comes out with the engine.
Good news is you can swap the harness off your '95 engine onto the new motor and use it that way. Some modifications will have to be made. Depending on your model of Civic you may have to add VTEC wires, a knock sensor wire as well as maybe convert your O2 sensor to the proper style (CX and VX hatchbacks use different style O2 sensors than other Civic's). You may have to change the plugs for the distributor and injectors as well (same wires, different shape/style plugs, I believe). You will also need an OBD I ECU to control the motor, either from a Del Sol with a B16A, a JDM B16A ECU or have a P28 from a SOHC VTEC repogrammed to control the DOHC engine. You won't be able to use the OBD II ECU or a conversation harness in your car because there are sensors it will be looking for that your car simply doesn't have. It may be possible to use but it will give you a lot more headaches.
If the motor your talking about is from an Integra, your life will be easier. The wiring harnesses are the same and aside from a few additional wires you'd have to add and OBD I ECU to control it all, it's a lot simplier.
