I know the aftermarked 255LPH ones are about $100, but that would be too much for a stock motor.

I'm not sure how much a new one is. It's a really easy install. You have to remove the back seat... then it's really stright forward.

Is there a way to check my fuel pump to make sure that its bad? The car died like it ran out of gas as i was driving. And then it wouldn't start.

could be the under-dash fuel relay too. You should be able to hear wether or not your fuel pump is turning on when you trun the key.

normally when you turn the key to the 'on' position, but don't turn it over, you can hear a faint kinda humming sound. If you hear that still, your fuel pump is probably ok. If you hear nothing, the pump probably kicked the bucket.
