Upgrading my civic`
I'm a newbie. I hate to say it but I am. My father has spent most of his time working on his civic, but after he crashed it, he decided he didn't wanna spend any more money on it, so he gave it to me to spend money on. I have plenty of money and nothing to use it on, so I wanna get this running, and running fast. The car is a 1993 Honda Civic LX. He has a cat-back system, new header, Iceman Cold Air Intake, Tokico shocks, MSD Ignition, and a strut bar. I know with all this, though, the car likely doesn't push past 130 horsepower. I think of this and I wanna do something about it. Is swapping the engine the only option I have left, or can I do more? Any feedback (positive or negative) will help. Thanx.
First, welcome aboard.
Second, it depends on what you're shooting for, in terms of hp gains, that will determine which swap is best. Getting that 1.5l motor out of there is a must. If you want inexpensive, a turbo d16 would be a decent swap that can net low 14s at the track. If you're shooting for the moon, a b18c or h22 will certainly make for a much more limitless swap.
There's tons of info on these boards about swaps and turbo applications and generally helpful info for novices. Use the search button. You've got a cool dad and money to burn. Do the research, and you'll be set. Good luck.
