Default Funny noise

When my car is idling I hear a hollow kinda rattling sound, but when I put it in gear, it stops. I also hear it when I rev up to 3k and up. I recently change my alternator, could it be loose or something????

OT: I noticed OSX had more posts than me, so I stayed up all night to beat him. I didn't know he woulda caught up so fast. :dunno:

I popped the hood, but it's hard to pin point it exactly. I did have rocks in one of the heat shields, but I got rid of that. This one's coming from the engine bay, but I can't figure it out. I seam to only hear it from inside the car :dunno:

Can you describe the noise a little bit more? How high in pitch, how loud, metallic or not, etc.?

Pretty hard to say otherwise... could be tons of things.

Kinda like a muffled mettalic I guess. It's sorta like a rumbling sound and it's not loud, kinda deep. Was wondering if it has anything to do with the alternator I just changed.
