Default best possible engine swap for my car?

I have a piece of crap engine. I have a 97 civic cx hatch. I want to get an engine swap. My original plan was to get the SIR II - the one with 175HP. Now, would this be the best possible swap? I don't wanna dish out like 3-4 grand for like a Type-R or anything. My limit is set to like $2500 max.

I wanna be able to race other civics, integs, rsx's, and some v6 cars and not have to worry about being beat.

I hate my car the way it is.

You should search this forum a little more, there are tons of threads about engine swaps...

btw, a limit of $2500 is a litl low if you want to be able to hang with Tegs, RSXs, and some V6s....just my $.02

if you were working w/ an older platform that would be a nice goal, but for that price, you might want to do a d16y8 swap and then turbo it, and then work for the IHE

Except with a turbo, the 'H' part of IHE wouldn't exist....

With $2500 to spend you would be better off with a b18b (ls swap)

For $2,500, your only real option is a B18B (LS) swap. You can find the complete motor setup for around $2,000 with just about everything you'll need. Slap a good intake and maybe a header onto it and your pushing past your budget. I've known a few LS swaps to run low 15's, basically just swapped in, which is a pretty good match for anything short of the newer sport compacts (SRT-4, WRX, RSX-S, SVT Focus ...). An extra $1000 in the budget for a B16A or B18C1 would go a long way into getting you into the 14's reliably and consistantly.

Not true~! The exhaust manifold can be upgraded and also, for the I part, you can use a really crappy air box w/ a turbo, or a big cone filter etc.

ie....supra turbos come w/ a small airbox that is easily replaceable w/ a large cone filter, and also you can use different exhaust manifolds.......so i got in the habit of saying you need an intake/headers w/ a turbo since my boy has a mkIII runnin 11s(still so jealous of that car).
