Default 1st Gen B16 in 90 Integra???

Me and a friend of mine swapped a first gen B16A into his 90 Integra, which we also converted to a standard. Well after converting it to a standard and swapping the motor. We started the car and it doesn't want to start and we noticed the timing belt was flopping around. So we decided to change the timing belt and noticed that the water pump gear was messed up, so we changed the water pump also. While I replaced the water pump I noticed some dirt and rust coming out of the water pump chamber, so i cleaned it up. After that we crank it up and it still won't start. We got fuel and spark. So what could it be wrong. Can it be the wiring? Cus we used the automatic engine harness. Can it be the motor or he did something wrong when he took off the timing belt? Which I wasn't there to double check on how he did it. Oh another thing is he told me it started up before once, but that was before we did the timing belt and water pump. I check for the ecu to throw a code and no code. What can we do or check to see what can cause it not to start?

I don't know if this is an issue or not, but I've heard with an auto/manual conversion, you have to take the stock automatic cable and put it either in neutral or park or the car wont' start. Automatics have a lockout that won't let the car start in gear so it reasons that it would remain, must be seperate from the ECU. I would think that wouldn't even let it crank, but it's a suggestion.

Another thing I've heard killing people is to make sure (and I mean absolutely sure!) that the cams/crank were at TDC when you put the new belt on. I've heard of people having the cams 180 degree's off and having a nightmare time figuring out why it won't start. Also, check your fuel pressure to make sure the pump is working properly. Make sure the plug wires are in the right place on the distrubtor too. All I can think of right now, hopefully it's one of those. Good luck finding it.

Ha ha, make sure the ECU is actually plugged in too. I was helping a friend test one of those junk A/F gauges on my hybrid and we just pulled the ECU out to hook up the O2 sensor wire and I went to start the car to test it and it would just crank. Took us about 2-3 minutes to realize we forgot to plug the ECU back in.

what you need to do with and auto to manual swap is connect the two wires that lead to the PARK position on the automatic shifter that makes the car think that it in park and will start and then two more to get your keys back but i forgot what position those wires were cause i never wrote it down but here is the wiring part of a write up i did for and auto to manual on a 92-95 civic crossreference the colors to match yours and you can figure it out.

7. Now comes the difficult part of wiring your car so it doesn’t think it’s an automatic anymore. First off once the automatic shifter is removed be sure to save the wire harness that goes to the shifter you will need to connect a few wires on that.
1. The first two wires you need to connect are the two wires that run to the park position on the harness. Those colors are black/red and black/white.
2. The second two wires you need to connect are for the… You need to connect these two in order for you car to give your keys back. Those colors are green/white and black.

3. The third and final thing you need to wire up is the reverse lights. The reverse lights sensor is on the front of tranny and runs to who knows where inside the car. So what you need to do is to follow to where those reverse lights wires go to at the plugs of the wire harness. Once you located what pin position those wires go to pull out those two plugs and added a smaller wire around the pin and shoved it back in. Once in the plugs run the wire through the firewall and to the automatic shifter harness. Once there just connect these two wires to the reverse wires on the automatic wire harness. The reverse lights follow the same colors throughout the harness and even on the plug. These colors are green/black and yellow.

Well I was the one that did the inside harness. I wire it up to get the key back and to get the car cranking. But it still doesn't start up all tthe way. It sounds as if it wants to start. Its sputtering trying to start.

Civicsir7, I am doing a swap on a 90 Integra as well, and have found myself frustrated and stuck. What did you use or do for mounts. I have tried my old mounts and the ones that came with the motor all with no luck. I can get 3 lined up, but the top tranny mount won't mount up. Any suggestions? anyone.

Check your grounds. You didn't give us practically any details on your wiring.
