JDM Type R idling problem
this one's been a mystery to anyone who's looked at my engine. i don't know a whole lot about it...so i'm looking for some help. what it does is this: when the engine's cold...it doesn't want to start at all. eventually it will and all will be fine. once it warms up, it begins to lub while idling. it revs up and down and up and down between 1 and 2 grand. if you pump the brakes, it increases the revs up to between 2 and 2.5 grand. then it'll go back down. this is all a mystery. if anyone knows anything, please let me know. thanks!
any recommendations on where to start? i know the IAC's been checked. another thing...i don't know if it has anything to do with this problem or not...is that the knock sensor's been throwing up a code. that's what i'm told anyway. would that affect the idle?
The aicv was my first thought. My civic with a jdm b16 has the same problem. But, I took the aicv off my old b18a and changed it and now it doesn't idle the same, but it is still crapy. As far as the brakes, that can usually mean the master cylinder has a small leak. I don't know that the two are directly connected.
BTW, how do you clean the aicv? I just used a q tip and rubbing alchohol and wiped off the little screan.

i'm not sure how they cleaned the IACV. but the guy that's been working on it seems to think it's an electrical problem causing the car to overfuel itself, because the car also has trouble starting cold...and when it does it blows out thick black smoke. i don't know what that means. he said as far as he can tell the ECU's wired up correctly according to the diagrams. it's the biggest mystery in the world!
The fact that the knock sensor is throwing a code is also strange... and hints at wiring problems. If you don't have a scanning tool and a shop manual with complete wiring schematics, you might take it in to a good shop and have them check out the wiring in depth.
it's a JDM ecu. what's KS stand for? another thing i figured out this afternoon is that if you're stopped, put the car in gear and let the clutch about half-way out, the idling goes back to normal. it's all very very strange.
