Default What expensive item is worth every penny?

From another site.. what expensive items are actually worth every single penny that they cost? I'll throw in 2 examples right off the bat that are applicable to me.

1) Mattress. I've found that buying a quality mattress helps me get to sleep faster, stay asleep, and makes me feel refreshed in the morning. It also has helped my back problems and reduces snoring considerably. Along with this, good pillows, and good sheet sets. I will never go back. Source: Serta iComfort Prodigy - approx $2500 (king size). We tried several different brands (OMF, S&F, Sealy, etc) and models and came back to this. It also helps to have a layer of latex cooling gel, as I sleep hot. Not one complaint.

2) Boots. I spent more time in my boots than I do any other shoe. It is imperative to find something that balances comfort and function. I am in these between 12-24 hours at a time. I was satisfied with my 5.11 ATAC boots, but next time I might try a pair of Haix. Also helps with back problems.

I find that any item that I appreciate the quality of is worth the money. For example I think a good watch is worth the money. Same thing with suits, dress shirts, and ties. I don't really care about sunglasses so I don't spend money on nice ones but I know some people that will spend a lot of money on them.

I also tend to purchase higher end electronics (TV, computer, stereo, etc). I would rather spend more money and have the product last longer than replace things frequently.

Only thing that comes to mind is good insurance. My homeowners policy saved me from what would have likely been a $$$ lawsuit at one point. My Progressive policy gave me more than what the truck was worth when I totaled it.

I agree with the bed... I went from a $300 Queen size I got from a mom and pop store... to a Serta King also (I think its the same one as Darkstarrs) the difference is night and day. I will never go back to a cheap bed unless I absolutely had to.

My glasses... I have 2-3 pairs of glasses, each were $500-$600... The way I see it, well I'm gonna be wearing these things everywhere, I need them to be comfortable as well as durable. I try to find decent frames, but I always go for the best lenses.

I do have to second on the work boots but not necessarily on the bed. I paid 1000 for a queen mattress and it broke down in a couple of years. I was so pissed I just kept using it long after it was obviously bad. Two years ago I bought a sleep innovations memory foam mattress for 360 and it is still awesome.

We got a Tempurpedic Tempur-Cloud Supreme and it was like $2600 ($3000 is MSRP). It's pretty awesome, but I'm not sure I would call it "worth every penny." I am more comfortable at night and I have less back and should trouble than I used to. I don't sleep any better, but I think my sleep trouble is more mental than comfort related. The biggest benefit to me is that I can flop around all night and not bounce the bed or wake up my wife.

That said, $3k is a shitload of money for a mattress.
