Default Life choices. (career people)

As some of you know, I've been putting serious thought into going to law school after my undergrad.

Lately, I've been truly wondering whether my heart is really into going for a law degree. It's something that I do have an interest in, but I'm starting to wonder if it's something I would ever truly be happy doing. I think I was considering something like that because of the wrong reasons. (financial security)

I've always wanted to be a writer when I was younger. I used to write just for fun, have always done well in my English classes, which is why I'm an English major. Writing is something I love to do; it allows me to be creative and express myself.

Now the part of writing that makes me shy away is that a lot of the jobs are not secure. I would have to struggle for some time and hope I make it. The kind of writing I want to do are plays, screenplays, and novels. I always get ideas in my head for plots and characters, but never take advantage of it.

Now in my heart, I know I should go for what I love. It's just that I'm somewhat of a coward when it comes to taking a chance on things, especially myself.

Has anyone been or is in this situation?

do what makes you happy. There are plenty of jobs out there that you can be happy at and still be financially secure.

could you go to law school, but still pursue your writing career at the same time? and your writing skills will definitely help with being a lawyer right.?

I don't think working as a lawyer would really tap into my creative side (contract law).

I've always been into performing arts and writing (short stories/poetry) since I was in elementary school.

My sister is planning on attending law school next fall, she graduated recently with a Poli-Sci degree. She lives and breathes politics. She truly shows enthusiasm for it. The only thing I do the same with is writing and the arts.

yea, that's what my dad tells me. While he makes a good amount of money, he isn't happy with his career choice.

werd...i can understand financial security, but i dont value materialistic things as much as others do. as long as i can own a house and a car, and have enough to support my family....its all good.

i rather spend my 8 hour days doing something i enjoy.

Yeah, I think part of me wanted to succeed over what my dad has done, which is a lot. But it's not important to make all the money in the world if you're miserable.

I'm just starting to realize that life's not all about taking the safe roads, sometimes you need to take a chance.
