Default strange engine/pipe noise?

i have a 94 lx. when i rev the car from about 2000 to 3000 in 1,2, sometimes 3 there is this strange noise that comes from either the engine or pipes that go down to exhaust. it sounds like air gettin out or some metal rubbing against something, kinda like a whining noise. the car is fully stock. just wonderin if anyone else has similar problems, and if anyone knows what kinda problem it is. could u tell me how to fix it.
thanks

it could be a million and one things. here are some things i would check out.

exhaust leak
cracked exhaust manifold or bad gasket
timing belt tensioner and belt itself
water pump
all accessory belts

if it does it when your in neutral have someone rev the car. get a long hollow metel pipe and put one end to your ear and the other end to the alternator, power steering pump if you have one, starter, throttle body, anything for that matter and see if you can isolate the whine. the pipe thing is an oldschool trick that acts like a set of stethacopes.
