Changing spark plugs (easy)

I feel like a complete idiot, but I need to change my plugs, and I can't figure out how to get the wires off to access the plugs. I pulled and pulled, and only succeeded in pulling the boot off. How do I get the wires off to get to the plugs???

crxb16er 08-19-2003 11:40 AM

twist the wire out of the spark plug hole

crxb16er 08-19-2003 11:41 AM

then use an extension and spark plug remover and unscrew the spark plug from the head, lefty loosey righty tighty

shawmutt 08-19-2003 11:59 AM

Does it pop right off or is there a particular way to twist?

crxb16er 08-19-2003 12:25 PM

it does pop right out but a little twist helps it out sometimes, just yank on the spark plug boot not the wire or else u can damage the wire if u yank really hard, its like a vacume cleaner plug u can just yank it out but its not suggested

It sounds like the wire is corroded to the plug. This is not good, however easy to fix.

Step 1) Grab the plug wires with vise-grip pliers and rip them off.
Step 2) Unscrew and remove sparkplugs.
Step 3) Replace the plugs and wires with new, quality parts.

YMMV, be gentle as nessicary.

use anti-seize on the new plug threads... and torque them down properly or ask someone how to estimate torque if you don't have a torque wrench.

cool thanks, I'll try it tomorrow

Technodigifreak 08-22-2003 11:24 PM

well, if your doing plugs, chances are your goin to want to do a few other things to your vehicle, now is a good time to invest in a quality torque wrench

LSVTECKING 08-23-2003 06:04 PM

Definately dont put anti-seize on you plugs. ANti-seize is not made to handle temperatures that high it will melt and get so damn hard you'll have a harder time geting them off then your having right now.
