how much boost can a stock ex motor handle?

Most stock Hondas will hold up to around 12-14 psi with perfect tuning. Beyond that the stresses get high enough that rods are known to bend, fold, or break.

With a completely built engine, the sky is pretty much the limit. Again, perfect tuning is the key.

Harry pretty much covered it, but I would stay under 10lbs of boost on a stock D16 just to be safe, with the occasional 12psi run. D series rods are toothpicks, and the pistons aren't much better. Stock ringlands usually account for piston-related damage.

I knew my post was too short... yeah, the ring lands on stock pistons can be pretty weak, especially if you make a few higher boost runs before getting everything tuned correctly. But in general, 12-14 psi on a continuous basis on a stock engine will most likely kill it, even with great tuning.

daily driver i would only boost 6-8psi... all that boost takes its toll

built engine 1 bar sounds nice.

im sure you could push more but i'm thinkin daily driver you'll be fine wit these figures.. but i am no boost expert ethier. but think about longevity!!

when you up the boost don't you have to go through the whole tuning process again?

yea, when you have your car on a dyno, it's pretty much tuned for a certain boost level. you cant get it tuned for 6 lbs and just turn it up to 10 and expect to run as well. it also depends on how often you hit high boost.

pretty much the past replies really covers everyting, In my opinion just run like 6-8 psi no more then that unless you want to damage your car but my opinion.
