What's This?

The gray thing that covers the header, what is it? Could I get rid of it without hurting the car?

just a heatshield, yes it can be removed. mine is.

Your engine bay will get hotter.. thats why its called a heatsheild. Id leave it in just because the stock exhaust manifold is rusted and uglay.

or you can just paint it with some high temp paint found at most autoparts store thats what i did and it looks a lot better

take my advice...unless you're getting an aftermarket header or turbocharger - keep that heatshield on. It doesn't hurt anything, but it does mask that UGLY cast-iron manifold.
