Default questions on ls block rebuild for lsvtec

im planning on going ls vtec. in order to do the build correctly, i was told to replace the rod and main bearings. is this at all accurate? and was it wise for me to purchase a used, and in decent shape set of itr pistons before i got the block machined?- what does the machine shop's work entail? do i give them the piston/rod assemblies and do they do the rest?- measuring clearances and such? any help would be much appreciated.

they will reccomend measuring your clearances, but it will cost a little extra. As far as the pistons, you should of got the block inspected before buying used pistons, what if your cylinders are out of round, now you have to bore it out. My suggestion is , get brand new bearings(rod, mains, etc.) and order some oversized pistons(.25 or .50mm over stock) just to be safe and then take it to the machine shop.
