Default idle vibration....

i have a 99 prelude and it seems to idle kind of rough.... the idle stays still at about 7 or 800 rpms, but i get a lot of vibration on the steering wheel and inside the car etc..... is this normal for the 5th gen ludes or is there some way I can fix it.....a couple other people have complained about this on their ludes and we are still trying to figure out how it can be solved.......any insight will be helpful

That's a honda quirk all of them do it. I believe a lot of it has to do with carbon build up. It's always a good idea to run a fuel injection cleaner every once in a while when you get your fill up on fuel to keep your injectors and cumbustion chamber clean. You may be able to kick your idle adjustment screw up to 900 rpms and smooth it out a little, but usually that's all controlled by the computer, so if running fuel injector cleaner doesn't help overtime and a tune up dosen't do much then your going to have to look to sensors that give refrence to the I.A.C valve.

mine idles at like 400 rpm in the summer and it vibrates my whole car only cuz i messed with my fuel pressure regulator. that vibration is cuz its getting very little fuel to the car so its like almost dying but i would think the vibration would be at like 500 or less, but maybe its different in other cars. most likely its perfectly fine, if it is something its probably good that your car idles that low, saving gas... etc..

hey vermsta, thanks for replying to my post...... I tried running the fuel injector cleaner through about a week ago, didnt seem to help much, maybe a little, but some people seem to recommend doing it a bunch of times and with a good one.... which one would you recommend , if any? and has it made a difference to you?

I prefer the chevron techron injector cleaner. I'll give you the story of my idle nightmare. When I first got my car it idled horrible way to low almost killed the engine everytime at stop lights and it would shake the car violently. I didn't know anything about cars back then, so I took it in for an engine diag and they told me I needed an oxygen sensor which was a bunch of crap. Anyway I changed that with no change. I got a tune up done, and that helped, but still no real change. Then my I.a.c. valve was changed and that did that helped the most, then I prolly ran 30 different kinds of fuel injector cleaner in a 2 month span and that basically took care of it. Recently I got new battery clamps and that brought the idle back up a little. Now it's just about perfect, but it will be higher or lower according to engine temp, which is normal, but also tells me I have a problem with my coolant temp sensor, because once in a while it will be perfect at normal operating temp and other times it will be a tad low or a tad high. Hopefully that gives you a few things to check out, but there is ways to test your sensors don't just get new one's, and don't take it to chain shops like firestone. Get a voltmeter and a haynes manual they will sometimes tell you how to test a sensor, all though sometimes you need a scope for things like o2 sensors and t.p.s. sensors. Sorry for the book.

It never really solved the problem completly it just helped it. It's just a good idea to run fuel injection cleaner every once in a while it helps keep carbon deposits down which can lead to an annoying idle vibration. Most likely this will not solve your problem completly, just hopefully it will make it less unbearable.
